Since its World Premiere at the DOC NYC Film Festival in the fall of 2024, Death & Taxes has screened at dozens of festivals and theaters, each showing followed by thoughtful, engaged discussions. The deeply personal story of my family has proven to be a human and accessible entry point into essential conversations about taxes, economic inequality, and the American Dream. The urgency of these conversations only intensified with the passage of the Trump budget in July 2025, which made permanent the billions of dollars in estate tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
Beginning with an extended run at IFC Center in New York, we crisscrossed the country,, screening the film for men’s groups, bar associations, film classes, and business schools, among others. While we continue to screen at festivals, in 2026 we are pivoting toward educational distribution. Almost every American college or university offers multiple courses each semester that engage directly with the issues explored in Death & Taxes: from economic inequality and the racial wealth gap to competing ideas of the American Dream. We’re excited to use this film as a tool to teach, spark dialogue, and deepen understanding around these critical topics.
